Well then.

So Genesis is in the bag, and all the surprises! OK, I can’t even type that with a straight face, let alone frame an entire entry to Shootfinish while following that line of thinking.

Plain and simple – Genesis should have scared Vince McMahon. It should have shaken his faith in his product to the point where he HAD to make changes in order to compete with the way TNA was shaping up. Instead, I have a sneaking suspicion that instead of fear, he was feeling some other emotion that has more in common with a Sitcom than a Wrestling show.

Mind you, it’s not that Genesis was bad per se. There were definitely moments of brilliance to be seen. Problem is, top to bottom, the show suffered from one thing – it was anything but a TNA show.

Earlier in the day, there were rumblings from people in the back that the ring had been changed to a 4 sided version. According to several sources, the reaction to the change to a 4-sided ring was a mixed one among TNA talent. No one knew that the change was happening and they only found out when they arrived at the building. Excuse me? It’s been spread over the Internet for the past 2 weeks – everyone knew, except for TNA itself? With so many of the names now using Twitter, Facebook and the like – how in the world could they NOT have known? Is this the beginning of “Plausible Deniability” as practiced so well in WCW, or just a bunch of people hoping that the stories were only rumors?

What in the world are Hogan and Bischoff thinking with that change? TNA has been doing well simply because they were the “Anti-WWE”, and everything different just happened to be where TNA shines. The 6 sided ring may indeed be harder to work in for some, but it set TNA apart from other Pro Wrestling organizations. Switching this to be more like the WWE isn’t helping TNA, mark my words.

Let’s talk about the PPV itself.

Again as expected, Ken Anderson made his debut – using the old Kennedy gimmick. Let’s hope he ditches that, because this yet another example of TNA attempting to mock the WWE with one of their ex workers using their old material. Point blank, it’s not working guys. Morley using his Val Venis (but not AS Val Venis) schtick, Anderson with tonight’s showing, etc.. It only highlights their WWE past, not makes fun of Vince. Take a clue from Vince himself – even if it doesn’t work at times, repackage people who are not TNA originals, unless they are already using their own name/material. Don’t give the WWE *any* rub if you can, because they don’t need it, trust me. And yes, that does include never actually saying WWE or Vince McMahon on air, Hulkster…

Speaking of which – even though I am definitely a fan of Sean Morley, why in the world put him over Daniels in their first meeting? While it’s not damaging to a feud, it must be remembered that Daniels has a fan base already established, and putting him over Morley would have given Morley a more sympathetic air for the feud. But hey, what do I know?

It was nice however to see the Knockouts 2 out of 3 falls match won in just 2 falls. Too many times promoters use this type of match to fill a lot of time, so 2 straight pins is rare enough to make it a pleasure to see done. I still don’t think Tara or ODB are getting a lot of mileage out of this feud, so I hope it steps up – that is assuming the Knockouts keep their place. Bischoff has shown in the past that he looks down on female wrestling, so unless things have changed, we could see Knockouts relegated to also ran status. It’s another thing that sets TNA apart from the people up North, and would be a terrible loss.

Could someone who CARES about the British Invasion, Matt Morgan and/or Hernandez please write me and let me know the appeal? I mean – did that match surprise anyone? Anyone? And while I know people out there care about the next 2 matches – frankly, I felt nothing from them. Could have been anyone, although I will say this – the Abyss/Anderson match could have had potential.

Finally, Styles vs Angle. If they had an exact duplicate from Thursday, it would have been perfectly fine. Instead, we get a good match that suffered from a poor finish – interference from Ric Flair. Yawn – sorry all you Flair fans, but it’s the truth.

Overall it was worth the money to purchase, but just barely. I just hope that someone gets smart before TNA follows WCW a bit too closely.
